Hey everyone, I recently came across this sungold solar flexible panel, and I’m curious if anyone has experience with it. I’m looking for something lightweight and durable to use on my RV roof, but I want to make sure it can handle the elements and last a while. The flexibility seems like a great feature for curved surfaces, but does it actually perform well in the long run? Also, how does it compare to rigid panels in terms of efficiency and overall durability? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey, great question! I actually have experience with Sungold’s flexible panels, and they’re solid. The PA-219 model you linked is built with high-efficiency SunPower solar cells, which means it delivers pretty good energy conversion despite being a flexible panel. Since it’s lightweight and ultra-thin, it’s perfect for mounting on RVs, boats, or even irregular surfaces where rigid panels wouldn’t work as well.

One of the key benefits is its ETFE coating, which makes it more resistant to wear and tear compared to standard PET-coated panels. This means it should hold up well against UV exposure and harsh weather conditions. The main downside compared to rigid panels is that flexible ones typically have a shorter lifespan—rigid panels are usually more durable over many years. However, if weight and flexibility are priorities for your setup, I’d definitely recommend it. Just make sure to install it properly to avoid stress points that could lead to cracking over time.
